I recently had a chance to play the pre-release version of We Happy Few, which I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. I was fairly generous, as this isn’t the full version, and you can see more of what I have to say here. A teaser below:

We Happy Few is advertised as a narrative roguelike survival game, though those playing the preview version are told there’s no story content in this pre-release version. Containing roughly half the actual world, the alpha set out to demonstrate the basic mechanics of surviving among the drug-addled populace of this retro-futuristic London, 1964. From the very beginning, it carefully combines influences from George Orwell, Kurt Vonnegut, and Shakespeare, creating a beautifully engaging atmosphere that draws on our reality, then perverts it into a drug-fueled nightmare…
